Review:
"There was something about being a creative writer that was beautiful
but also held a curse."

Johnnie is a musician and a singer for his bad Chasing Cross. Anyone who knows me already caught the fact that I can't resist musicians. They are always more passionate and interesting then any other type of person. But they have to be the kind of musicians that make music with their hearts and soul. Then their life stories are always the best.

This guy right here is the epitome of the musician that I look for in books.

I really, really liked this book, but I hate that it's a novella! I say this for many books, but it would've been even better if it was longer. Then I'm sure they'll get much more 5 stars and most importantly, people will enjoy them much better. Here, everything was rushed, the characters "fall in love" too fast, it all happens in a span of days which is totally not convincing and that bothers many people including me sometimes. I love it when everything goes slow. With this kind of writing, I want to read pages and pages of the story.

This book actually did remind me of Sinners with a lot of passionate talk about music and concerts that many rock-star books lack. So a BIG plus for that.A huge one. I don't think I came across one book that came close to Olivia Cunning, but this is it. Yes, the story was a liiiittle cliche with her not recognizing him and him becoming interested in her because of it but the rest is much more special. Except the fact that Jess suddenly has a talent for singing no one ever knew about, that was a little silly to put in. But you can tell that the author really wanted to bring out the feelings and the uniqueness of music. Not like some authors that write about rock-stars because some readers read them more.

I love the way Johnnie and Jess connected even though everything is rushed. Sometimes people fall fast and hard. It was emotional, it was spectacular, it was passionate, it was amazing. Sparks should be flying around these two, the connection was truly soul deep. Johnnie was beginning to feel lonely, frustrated, even disappointed and so so tired of it all. Plus his manager was pressuring him for a solo career ( I love that he didn't allow himself to let down his band - they are true brothers!. Jess was just the thing he needed - a woman how didn't throw herself over him and tried to understand him and his music and help him. Their time in the mountain cabin was the best.

Reading this was like listening to soft, beautiful, sensual music that cuts deep, and at times a music full of strong, wild, powerful highs played with fire.

"He just sat, his eyes wide in amazement, his fingers moving to the different chords as his other hand strummed.
Jess couldn’t stop. The chorus came again an
d Johnnie joined her. Together, their voices created something that made Jess’s skin shiver. She knew how good it sounded and in a sense of irony, she wished the song had been recorded."

“No solo Johnnie?”
“Never,” Johnnie said. “We’re brothers. And we’re in Chasing Cross. That’s all that matters...”
